Doug received a B.F.A. from Cornish College of the Arts (1982 - magna cum laude) where he studied with Marius Nordal, Gary Peacock and Art Lande. He has also studied film scoring and orchestration with Hummie Mann. He is active in the education system as an affiliate faculty member of Shoreline Community College, teaching Fundamentals of Music (online - WAOL certified), jazz improvisation, instrumental ensembles (rock, rhythm section techniques and guitar quartet ), MIDI sequencing (Digital Performer), group guitar classes and private lessons.

An Apple music software specialist, he is a level 2 certified Apple trainer for Logic Pro. He teaches courses for the Pacific Northwest Film Scoring Program, Discovery Tools and works with private clients. He formed and leads the Seattle Logic User Group, comprised of Seattle area composers using Logic Pro as their software of choice. He is the author of ÒMusic Production With Logic 8Ó, a video tutorial series for Grooveboxmusic.com. He also gives classes and tutors on Soundtrack Pro and demonstrated the software for Apple, Inc. at the 2007 NAB trade show.
